Gone With the Wind?

Hurricane season, which starts this June, goes together with wind damage. Even if you live in a location where hurricanes don’t occur, strong winds can cause a extensive damage, costing billions of dollars each year in the United States. Albuquerque homeowners can take precautions before a storm to reduce wind damage to their home:

  •          Find all items that may come loose in a wind storm and ensure that they are secured. This includes toys, portable grills, tools, trash cans, and patio furniture.
  •          Make sure gates are closed securely and replace any broken fence boards.
  •          Check your trees for unhealthy branches or overhanging the house and have them removed.
  •          Note all loose shingles, siding, and shutters and have them fixed quickly.
  •          Inspect the condition of your garage door. This is also a good opportunity to familiarize yourself with the manual override for the garage door opener in case of a power outage.
